Occupation: Singer and composer.

Current home: Santa Monica, Calif.

Marital status: Married for 10 years to David Ellingson.

Child: A boy, 8.

Working on: A video, a tour, the new Sissy Spacek film, Violets Are Blue, and promoting my album, Barking at Airplanes.

Worst job: Selling clothes at a department store. The manager wouldn't let the salesgirls talk to each other.

The last good movie I saw was: Beverly Hills Cop.

Favorite performer: Sting.

Favorite childhood memory: Singing in the car with my dad.

Personal heroes: Smokey Robinson and the Rolling Stones.

I wish I could stop: War and hunger.

I'd give anything to meet: Sting and John Garfield.

When nobody's looking, I: Sneak chocolate.

The worst part of my job is: The business side.

I want to teach my child: To go for it. This isn't a rehearsal.

A really great evening to me is: Hanging out in a joint with my band -- they're my best buddies -- in whatever city we're in.

The worst advice my mother ever gave me was: Don't go into show business, get a real job.

The one thing I can't stand in people is: Jive insincerity.
